In the 14th century Mir Ali Hamadani traveled to Ladakh in Kashmir, the homeland of the cashmere goats. That was the first time in history the soft wool produced by the Ladakhi goats was discovered. In early 19th Century, Cashmere (as called by the British) was introduced to the west. Since then there has been strong presence of cashmere throughout the world.

The History of Cashmere

In 2015, I, Luke McGowan travelled to India to volunteer in an orphanage and it was then I discovered the dying art of hand woven cashmere. In 2016, I started Honest Cashmeres to pursue both ‘Honesty and Quality’ in an Industry that is being taken over by machine made and counterfeit cashmere.

The History of Honest Cashmeres

Every cashmere scarf purchased supports the people of Kashmir and the orphanage that I served at and continue to support through Honest Cashmeres.
